RAPPER TURNED (CAT) TRAPPER!
Making music & helping cats are Sterling Davis’ passions. He uses his “TrapKing” brand to engage people, especially men & people of color, in community cat care & TNR. A Navy veteran, lifelong animal lover & vegetarian since age 12, he fell into cat rescue during a layover on a music tour, when he saw an ad for a job @ an Atlanta animal shelter. When the tour resumed, he stayed: He’d found something that felt too important to leave.After 5 yrs @ the shelter, he formed a nonprofit to bring his own unique strategy to community cat advocacy. He drives into neighborhoods, music blaring, in a van emblazoned with cats (license plate TNRKING!) His high-profile draws attention, giving him a chance to talk w/residents & recruit allies. When not trapping in Atlanta, he’s often speaking @ animal welfare events, providing insights on topics such as the intersection of race & animal welfare, tips for dealing w/“feral humans” & recognizing cultural biases. His mission is to challenge cat rescuer stereotypes & bridge communication gaps between communities of color & local animal welfare groups.
